Position Overview:
The Interlibrary Loan Supervisor leads and directs resource sharing services, including interlibrary loan lending and borrowing, article scanning, digitization requests and document delivery. This position supervises staff and student employees and is responsible for maintaining and improving timely and efficient resource sharing through effective management of employees and optimization of workflows, including but not limited to adoption and implementation of automated software solutions. The incumbent receives, searches, verifies and processes requests from university patrons and partner libraries; communicates with internal and external stakeholders; and assesses policies, procedures and workflow to ensure an effective and efficient operation. The Interlibrary Loan Supervisor serves within the Discovery and Acquisitions Unit.

Required Experience:
  • Experience in the following:
    • Online library automation systems and online searching
    • Interlibrary loan borrowing, lending, or other resource sharing technologies
    • Learning, adapting and using new technology in a professional setting
    • Customer service experience
    • Supervisory experience
    • Analyzing and resolving problems with minimal supervision

Required Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Required Other:
  • None

Additional Preferred:
  • Work experience in an academic library public services department
  • Knowledge of academic libraries and the principles of library services, practices and organization
  • Experience managing staff and workflows in a fast-paced library setting
  • Experience using interlibrary loan and resource sharing processing tools such as ILLiad, Docline, OCLC Worldcat Resource Sharing and Alma Resource Sharing
  • Knowledge of copyright, privacy and other legal and policy issues relating to interlibrary loan and document delivery
  • Knowledge of local, regional and national issues relating to interlibrary loan and document delivery
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move up to 30 pounds
